Don't forget to attend our monthly meetings! Second Saturday of each month, 11 AM at the Gallery. Hope to see you there!
![]() Gallery News The Gallery is filled from wall to wall and floor to ceiling with wonderful original artwork. If you haven’t stopped by, please do. The artists change out their art every 60 days so there is always something new and exciting to see. A great place to browse on a cold wintry day. Christmas was really busy for us. The tree was filled with handmade ornaments from our artists and they sold really well. Some very lucky people received jewelry, pottery, and or paintings as gifts from friends and family who did their Christmas shopping at the Gallery. We are the place for the unusual, one of a kind, handmade items you won’t find anywhere else. Several of our artists will do commission work and of course we have gift certificates. Our Christmas Open House, November 17th and 18th was well attended despite the cold wet weather. Mrs. Cratchet attended and told stories about her family and their connection to Mr., Dickens. She made her famous plum pudding and everyone had a taste and she was rewarded with many lip-smacking thanks. It was a fun weekend to kick off the holiday season. One of our best selling items in the Gallery are greeting cards. Almost all of the painters and photographers have wonderful handmade cards available at very reasonable prices. Customers love them because they are so different from the usual cards available. Artists have their cards in baskets along with their displays. Next time you need a card stop in and take a look, you might be pleasantly surprised. The Gallery represents 24 local artists, and there is a waiting list of artist who would like us to represent them and are waiting for space to open up for them to show their art. Come in and take a look at the talent that we have in the area. We are sorry to say that the Tea Lady, Harriet Rose, is no longer at the gallery. Family responsibilities made it difficult for Harriet to have regular times to in the gallery and she had to give it up for the time being. Our web site is being revamped and will have lots of new additions. Bios and samples of artists in the gallery will be posted, plus all the activities at the Gallery, classes, workshops and Arts Alive! activities. Bookmark our site and stay informed here at www.plateaartsalive.org.

Poetry Jam After returning from a writer’s conference on Whidbey Island in March, 2006, I was thinking about some of the ideas I had garnered. One was that as a writer I would need to take my writing out into the public for input. I have written for years but kept it fairly private as the idea of reading to others made me nervous. In talking with Elaine Lynest about the writer’s conference, I said that one of the ideas expressed was to start a poetry reading. Elaine enthusiastically supported the idea. She agreed to add a poetry reading as the event for the second Friday of each month in the evening. We kicked off the first one in April 2006. As the year has progressed, we have grown to an average of ten to twenty people, some from various local writing/poetry groups, reading their own poetic works or those of a favorite poet. We also began to have a Poet of the Month where one person volunteered to do a biography of a poet who either had passed away in that month or was one we wanted to honor (local people who perhaps were unable to be with us physically) and then read some of that person’s poems. The Poetry Jam is open to all people, the group loves to share the written word, express feelings, ideas and experiences plus enjoy some of Doreen’s delicious, home baked goodies.
