 NEW CLASS AT THE GALLERY!

Painting With Pastels with Elaine Lynest

For those of you who enjoy getting your hands into your art, working with pastels is for you.  Pastels are one of the most expressive mediums in the hands of the creative artist and is currently experiencing a worldwide renaissance. It gives the artist total control for creative expression and is capable of a wide range of interpretation, lending itself to any subject matter.

The word pastel comes from the Italian “pasta” or paste. Dry pigments are ground into a powder, and then mixed with glue to make a paste, which is formed into sticks. The amount of glue determines the hardness or softness of the pastel stick. Most artists will use a variety of hard and soft pastels in creating a piece of art. Because pastels are pure pigment the colors are usually bright and vibrant. As varied as the pastels themselves are, so are the surfaces to work on. Experimenting with a variety of surfaces can yield a wide array of personal, expressive results.

The way you apply pastel has a profound effect on the finished painting, so in this class three different approaches will be experimented with. 1.) Scribbling; 2.) Stippling and 3.) Blending. Call our Gallery for a supply list.
